πŸ“• 5 Books About Knitting for Men

I must say researching this topic was incredibly frustrating.

For a topic like socks I can easily put together 4 or 5 roundups of knitting books.

But not only are there surprisingly few books with patterns geared toward men, there have been almost NONE published in the past 10 years.

Even the relatively *good* ones are pretty hit and miss with their pattern recommendations.

And some books are quite ridiculous with the things they suggest making for guys (I'm looking at YOU Son of Stitch N Bitch! πŸ‘€)

There's really only one book here that I think knocks it out of the park. I would wear every project in it.

Other than that, these are kinda lukewarm recommendations from me but there are some worthwhile projects in each of them from designers I have a lot of respect for.

Here they are:

Modern Men's Knits by Jen Geigley

Why we love it: I've worked with Jen a little in the past and she has a great sense of style. Her patterns are clean and simple and incredibly wearable.

This is the ONLY book on the list where ALL of the patterns are worth making for the men in your life.

Knits Men Want by Bruce Weinstein

Why we like it: Bruce was indirectly responsible for my professional knitting career (more on that below), and this book came out the same year I started knitting.

Most of the patterns are solid choices, with simple projects that the average guy would wear.

Men's Knits: 20 New Classics by Erika Knight

Why we like it: I love Erika and she was also a major influence on my knitting career. I've gotten to know her a little, and she has a great eye for fashion.

There are a lot of great projects in this book, including many good accessories.

Boyfriend Sweaters by Bruce Weinstein

Why we like it: This followup to Knits Men Want is more ambitious than the first. Some of the projects feel a little over designed, but overall there are many good options.

And this book has one of my favorite patterns of ALL TIME.

Star Wars: Knitting the Galaxy Edited by Tanis Gray

Why we love it: Ok so this one might be a little out of left field, but if your man is a Star Wars fan, there's actually some really great projects in this book.

I would definitely wear the Starfighter Scarf or Order of the Jedi Pullover. There are plenty of silly projects here, but quite a few that are surprisingly wearable.

Conclusion

There may not be a ton of great books on knitting for men, but if you need some pattern recommendations, Brooklyn Tweed has some great men's collections.

But what do you think?

Have you knit from any of these books?

Horizontal Herringbone Stitch

This stitch is the reason you are reason you are reading this email right now.

I was trying to make the scarf pattern featured below, and banging my head against the wall.

When I tried to find a video that explained it there was nothing.

So I looked at the man in the mirror and said I can make a change.

That's when I decided to make video knitting tutorials. This was one of my first ones.

Deal of the Day

Prym Ergonomics 3 Pack
Arne & Carlos Limited Edition (20% Off)

These are some of the most interesting and unusual knitting needles I've ever come across. I own a few pairs of the regular style and they are like nothing I've ever knit with.

They are lightweight, comfortable to hold, slightly flexible, and have a unique teardrop tip that's surprisingly useful.

And I might have to grab this black set before they're gone for good!
