🌼 5 Drop Stitch Patterns to Knit This Spring

One of the most unusual stitches to knit is a drop stitch.

These elongated stitches are created using multiple yarn overs, and then *dropping* the slack off the needle on the next row.

As the weather is beginning to warm up, it's time to shift to light weight projects with lots of lace.

Well, drop stitches give that lacey feel without the headache of complicated lace charts.

Our favorite drop stitch projects for springtime

While drop stitches are not the most versatile stitches in the world, they can still be used in many applications.

From scarves to shawls to garments, there are a multitude or patterns that put this humble technique to good use.

So here are a few beautiful drop stitch projects you might enjoy knitting up:

Drop Stitch Shawl
by Ceresa Newsome

A little more scarf than shawl in my opinion, this is a great project to practice knitting drop stitches.

It's perfect for highlighting slow color change yarns like Lion Brand Mandala.

Verano Tee
by Lacie Lynnae

We featured this pattern yesterday, and it is similar to another on this list.

However this design is a little more simple AND Yarnist readers get $2 off through Sunday!

Drop Stitch Poncho
by Jessica Potasz

This kimono style cardigan is a great project to transition through the rising temps of spring.

Knit in cozy Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, it will keep you covered but cool.

Cancun Crop Top
by E Kate Archer

Lightweight tops are the perfect way to utilize drop stitches.

This lace shirt combines various lace panels with drop stitches for a fun project

Sierra Nevada Shawl
by Ksenia Naidyon

This shawl takes inspiration from the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Summits and valleys, streams and rivers get their interpretations in lace patterns, all coming together in a well balanced modern shawl.

BONUS PICK!

Tendril Necklace
by Olga Buraya-Kefelian

Good knitted jewelry patterns are hard to find, but this drop stitch necklace is jaw-dropping.

Emily Ockers Cast On

This is one of the more interesting cast ons I've used.

It's used for starting a project from the center, like a circular shawl, top-down hat, or toe-up socks.

And there's a clever trick that makes that hole in the middle disappear like magic.
