One great reason to learn to knit from charts is its much easier to track your project progress.

Here are a few tools to help you out:

Post It Sticky Notes - Buy Them Here

What is it?
A good way cheap way to mark your progress as your work through a knitting chart

Why you should own it?
Yes it is a bit DIY, but printing our your pattern and using a sticky note to cover the portion of the project you haven't worked yet is a really good, simple solution.

Magnetic Pattern Holder - Buy It Here

What is it?
This little folder uses magnets to help you track your pattern progress

Why you should own it?
It'll help you be a bit more organized than using post it notes, and the magnets are nice a long for those big pattern repeats.

Line Magnifier - Buy It Here

What is it?
A horizontal magnifying lens with magnets on the ends

Why you should own it?
If your eyes aren't the sharpest, this magnifier works great with a magnetic pattern holder to give you a better look at the row you're working on.

Knitting Graph Paper - Buy It Here

What is it?
Graph paper specially formatted to mimic the shape of knitting stitches

Why you should own it?
If you want to make your own charts by taking a written pattern and translating them, this paper uses a 4:5 ratio for the chart squares.

KnitCompanion App - Learn More

What is it?
A pattern tracking app for Kindle, Android, and IOS

This app is the current gold standard for knitting apps. It has a ton of bells and whistles that take reading chart patterns to another level.
