πŸ“’ What our community wants from the Sweater Knitting Weekend

Today is the first day of our Sweater Knitting Weekend event.

And I have asked each one of the 5,000+ people who registered so far to share what they hope to get out of the event.

There are definitely some common themes, like:

  • How to get a proper fit or size
  • Understanding ease
  • Learning how gauge impacts the finished project
  • Avoiding surprises / mistakes
  • Gaining confidence in attempting a sweater

But I thought I'd highlight some of the community responses we've received over the past couple weeks.

We'll be covering most if not all of these topics over the course of the next 4 days!

Let's dive in...

β€œ
I'd be thrilled if I could learn to make sweaters fit…especially if I wanted to use a yarn that was not the specific one called for in a pattern.
β€” Jann

Today we'll be discussing choosing yarn for sweaters, and I'll cover how to make better yarn substitutions as well.

β€œ
I want to be able to see whether the amount of yarn I currently have on hand can make a sweater that I am doing without a pattern(what size or style will it make) and also to estimate yardage for potential sweaters when I find yarn on sale so I can decide on how much to buy when I only have a skeleton in my mind of what I want.
β€” Glenda Rhodus

I have a handy chart I'll be sharing during our Yarn For Sweaters session that will make this very easy.

β€œ
Sweaters intimidate me, even though I am an experienced and otherwise not a fearful knitter. I think it's the math and calculations that set me off. Hoping to gain confidence and start a sweater this winter.
β€” Jane Beech

The whole point of this event is to give you more confidence to knit a sweater without fear.

I'm going to spend A LOT of time on Day 2 making sweater math easy to understand (even if you're not good at math πŸ˜‰).

β€œ
I've made many sweaters in the past 20 years. Some were very successful, some, not so much. I'd like to have more successes and less "ho-hum" results.
β€” Melissa Pagel

Whether you're making your first sweater or your 50th, there's always something to learn. We'll be discussing many advanced topics, as well as concepts that can take a ho-hum sweater to a Heck Ya!

β€œ
How to do short rows for a rounded back. How to determine how much extra length is needed and hints if there is a pattern or striping in the pattern.
β€” Susan Essig

This is a problem that vexed me for years!

But luckily I finally cracked the code on how to do this and I'll be walking you through short row necklines on Day 3.

β€œ
Thanks so much for the invitation. I'm looking forward to it. I'm going to learn a lot and am particularly interested in learning more about how to make adjustments for the fit I want for a particular pattern.
β€” Jana Jenkins

Day 3 is all about making tweaks and adjustment to thinks like collar styles, sleeve shapes, and much more.

If you want tips on adding colorwork, pockets, or design details, you won't want to miss Saturday's sessions!

β€œ
Would love to finish a sweater. How do I stay motivated and how do I pay better attention not to make mistakes?
β€” Lynda Brown

This is something I have struggled with myself, so I totally get it.

Our final session is going to answer this question, and give you some simple strategies for sticking with it and actually finishing a sweater!

Conclusion

There were hundreds of responses and this was just a small sample of the comments we've received.

If any of these sound like you, then I encourage you to sign up for our FREE Sweater Knitting Weekend.

We start at 12pm Eastern, but you'll also get 48 hours to watch every session!

I hope to see you there!
